Haflong residents hail move to shift DIET office

Haflong, March 4: The conscious people of Kalachand, only 5 km from Sub-Divisiol HQ, have expressed Maibang great satisfaction as the District Institution of Education and Training (DIET), which was functioning at Haflong instead of Kalachand for the past several years, is all set to shift to its origil place of establishment at Kalachand soon.

The District Institution of Education and Training (DIET) was established at Kalachand by converting the Basic Training Centre to impart training to the teachers but could not be made functiol for reasons best known to the authority concerned. From 2008, the DIET was made functiol at Haflong on the plea of law-and-order situation and above all, some of the officials were not interested to come to Kalachand making some lame excuses.

The people of Kalachand have been travelling pillar to post demanding re-establishment and proper functioning of the DIET at Kalachand where infrastructure was available. Pronil Nunisa, a prominent social worker of Kalachand ,while talking to this correspondent, said, “We have been demanding to restart the DIET at Kalachand since long but our appeal is yet to reach the authority concerned.” He also said during the past few days officials of DIET  were seen at the Kalachand DIET campus which was renovated recently, perhaps to shift the DIET from Haflong, and if it is true that the DIET was being permanently to Kalachand then it would be a great achievement for the people of Kalachand.
