Hagrama hails Gogoi's declaration to form Boro Kachari autonomous council

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 1: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary today hailed Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his declaration of forming “Boro Kochari Autonomous Council” outside BTC districts to facilitate developmental aspects to the Bodo and other indigenous tribal people.

In a press conference held at Bodoland Guest House in Kokrajhar on Friday, Mohilary expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his declaration to form new autonomous council for the Bodos and indigenous communities living outside BTC in the New Year 2016. Mohilary said that it was a gift for Bodo people those living outside of BTC.

He expressed hoped that the new autonomous council should be in the line of present Rabha Hasong, Tiwa and Mishing autonomous councils of Assam.

He also urged the state government for making necessary official process and interim council before the notification of assembly election. The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) also welcomed the declaration.

Talking to reporters, Anil Basumatary, spokesman of the UBPO said that this declaration was significant for their safety security and all round development to the people outside of BTC.

He also demanded that the UBPO be invited and taken into confident while the state government formulates the rules and modalities of the Boro Kachari Autonomous Council.
