GORESWAR, Feb 28: Activists of the Goreswar unit of Asom Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) burnt the effigy of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary at Goreswar rail gate on Wednesday in protest against Mohilary’s recent statement that non-tribals could not buy land in tribal belts and blocks.
Tension prevails in lower Assam following Mohilary’s statement that non-tribal people could not purchase and transfer land in BTAD. The AJYCP Goreswar unit has demanded that the indigenous people should have land rights in Bodoland Territorial Area districts (BTAD). Wahedur Rahman, president of Rangiya district unit of the AJYCP, said that they would take strong democratic movement if the BTC authority took such a decision against the indigenous people.
