Hailakandi remains calm after publication of final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC)

Hailakandi, July 31: The publication of final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Hailakandi district passed off peacefully with no reports of any untoward incident on Monday. People thronged some of the NRC seva kendras since morning while in others there were not much turn out as people got the information through different modes available to check whether their names have been included in the final draft NRC or not. The district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan and Superintendent of Police Mohneesh Mishra constantly monitored the law and order situation in all the 57 NRC seva kendras and in all the identified sensitive areas.

DC Khan and SP Mishra thanked the people of Hailakandi district for their support and cooperation all along in the NRC update exercise and for maintaining peace and tranquility in the entire district. They appealed to the people to be on alert to thwart the attempts by some forces to disturb peace and to cooperate with the administration in ensuring a correct and flawless NRC free from the names of illegal migrants.

Mishra said additional forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas to instil confidence among the people. He disclosed that the district has adequate security forces to deal with any kind of law and order problem. Section 144 Cr.PC has been clamped in the entire district. Khan said those whose names did not figure in the complete draft would get enough opportunities to incorporate their names by filing claims between August 30 and September 28.
