Hailakandi to observe Martyrs Day on May 19

SILCHAR, May 10: Come May 19, the whole Valley will be commemorating the 11 martyrs who laid their lives at Silchar railway station for the sake of protecting Bengali language. Barak Upattakar Bongo Sahitya O Sanskriti Sommelon, Hailkandi committee has decided to organize various cultural programmes on his day. Various cultural programmes that include discussions and meets will start from 11 am. Before that, at 830 in the morning, a rally will move in the town, after which floral tributes will be given to Shaheed Sharakh Stal (Shaeed miret) at 930 am.

At 2.55 in the afternoon, the 11 martyrs will be commemorated. People and shopkeepers have been requested to light 11 wicks at evening in their houses or shops in remembrance of the sacrifice made by those 11 martyrs. Hailakandi municipal board has extended its hand for help so that a grand programme can take place.

An important notice on behalf of Aninda Kumar th, secretary, Barak Upattakar Bongo Sahitya O Sanskriti Sommelon, Hailkandi committee, has been sent to the heads of all the educatiol institutes of the district that before May 19, the signboards bearing the mes of their respective institutions should be written in Bengali written. He said that Bengali culture and education should be spread among the young generation. Giving a clarion call to the people, he said that if people from every nook and corner come forward, then the tradition and prestige of the language could be preserved easily.
