Hailstorm causes extensive damage in Sonitpur district

Tezpur, April 7: A severe hailstorm lashed -Duar, Chariduar, Rangapara and Thelamara villages and many other places in Sonitpur district on Friday in which one person died at Purani Bardikorai village and two were injured. 

 The hailstorm, accompanied by rain, lasted for about 40 minutes. According to sources, around 1,000 families were affected by the hailstorm in the village areas of Sonitpur district. Sources said, there were reports of heavy crop loss caused by the hailstorm. Several roads were blocked by uprooted trees for several hours.

 While talking  to this correspondent, bojyoti Oja, ADC, Sonitpur said that the district administration would be conducting spot verification after which necessary relief and rehabilitation exercises would be carried out.
