Hailstorm hits crops, birds in Taraso Circle of Papumpare district

ITANAGAR: Taraso Circle in Papumpare district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday evening witnessed the first-ever heavy hailstorms causing extensive damage to crops, granaries, houses and domestic animals as well as wild birds.

Though there is no report on any human causality yet according to one local from the area, John Panye many birds were killed due to the hailstones. Speaking to this daily, Panye informed that a few villagers were shifted to the nearest school for shelter as most of the roofs were damaged due to the hailstorm.

“The size of the hailstorm were almost of the normal egg size, due to which the birds sheltering in the trees were killed and the crops field were totally damaged,” he said, adding that even the stainless steel CGI sheets were torn apart.

Panye also said that the Balijan ADC on Sunday visited the area along with the contesting candidate from 14 Doimukh Assembly Constituency Nabam Vivek and Tana Hali and expressed concern over the situation and provided helping held to the affected people. He said that this kind of destructive hailstorm was never witnessed in the circle before and was never expected.

Though it is natures call leaving behind many homeless and property being damaged, the people of the area have appealed to the fellow people of the state and the state government to help for the affected people of the area on various social networking sites.
