Half-ked teachers protest government apathy

Silchar,  September 5: Uble to shake up the state government for meeting their legitimate demand for provincialization of their schools, teachers in a bare-body together held protest demonstration near the main gate of the Circuit House here today. Surajit Mitra, general secretary of All Cachar Non-Provincialized L P, U P and M E School Teachers’ Association, said when the entire tion is celebrating Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishn’s birth day and offering respects to him and teachers, “We have to take the unusual step to draw the attention of the teaching community in general towards our continuous deprivation and neglect by the state government.”

Surajit Mitra further rued “Despite our repeated representations to the authorities concerned at the district and state level, there has been no response. We have to teach and survive. With empty stomach, how can we serve?” He demanded that by amending the Venture School Provincialization Act of 2011 and the amended Act of 2012-13, each and every school should be brought under provincialization. He at the same time said that the district level Scrutiny Committee after scrutinizing and examition of all the records and documents recommended the schools for provincialization to the office of the Directorate of Education.

Selim Uddin Barbhuiya, president of the Association, said that most of the non DISE (District Information System for Education) schools have been established 30 to 35 years ago and since then, these institutions have been imparting education regularly. Unfortutely, as he said, these schools have not been provincialzed. By ecting an Act in 2011, he blamed the state government simply to mock the helpless teachers. These teachers and employees of such institutions who are continuing without any salary feel themselves extremely discrimited and subjected to injustice without any human consideration.

Selim Uddin Barbhuiya rued, “We are virtually left in a lurch and pushed to a future of uncertainty”. In his desperate and passiote appeal to the Chief Minister to whom a memorandum in this respect has been sent through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar today said, “If as the head of the state, you have any feeling and respect for the teachers, consider our cases of provincialization with all human considerations.”
