Hamburg chosen as German bidder for 2024 Olympics

Berlin, March 22: The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced that Hamburg will represent the European country’s bid for the 2024 Olympics.

The northern port city was unimously chosen with 410 votes, and no abstentions, over capital Berlin by an extraordiry general assembly of the DOSB. Hamburg will compete with confirmed bidders Boston and Rome, and possible candidates Paris, Istanbul and Doha.

Germany hosted Summer Olympics in 1936 Berlin and 1972 Munich as well as Winter Games in 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The bid must be submitted to the Intertiol Olympic Committee (IOC) by September 15 but needs to clear one further hurdle in the form of a referendum. Hamburg had a support rate of 64 percent in a recent survey. IANS
