HANM conducts suprise inspection of hardware shops

SHILLONG, May 4: In a surprise inspection conducted by members of the Hynniewtrep Achik tiol Movement (HANM), Shillong circle on the weighing scale of hardware shops in Saw Forlong and Demseiniong area on Thursday revealed that there is inconsistency in the weighing scale used by these shops.

In this connection, the Movement has issued a one week deadline to the Legal Metrology department to rectify the matter failing which the Movement will close down all the shops operating with an inconsistent weighing scale.

The members of the Movement inspected 12 shops out of which only two shops were found to be consistent when their weighing scale was measured by a weighing stone brought by the NGO which has the stamp of the office of Weight and Measures.

Later the members of HANM proceeded in conducting inspection of petrol pumps at, Demseiniong, Anjalee, Malki and Dhankheti area.

After the inspection, while speaking to reporters HM Shillong circle president G Syiemlieh, said, “ Many of the weighing scales of the shops were not consistent in indicating the correct measurement and this clearly shows that the people are being cheated by these shops,” He added, “We will soon send a letter to the Legal Metrology department to take up necessary action on this matter and if they fail to execute our demand then we will be forced to shut down all the shops.” Meanwhile, HANM president central body Lamphrang Kharbani said that in their inspection some shops had proper documents from the Legal Metrology department and some shops does not any documents.
