SHILLONG, June 12: Ency Shadap, president of Hynniewtrep A'chik tiol Movement (HANM), East Jaintia Hills, has rubbished charges that he demanded money from an official at a check-post.

Inspector Ambrose Pala of Umkiang check-post had filed an FIR against three persons - Marshall Biam, chairman of North East Indigenous People's Federation (NEIPF), Ency Shadap and Julius Nongtdu - accusing them of demanding Rs 30,000 from them.

"The allegation made by the inspector against us is totally baseless and false," Shadap said.

He alleged that Pala had planned to defame the social organization as a ploy to prove himself innocent of the illegal activities committed by him in the check gates.

Shadap informed that they had filed an FIR against the inspector on June 2.

"We have come to know that inspector of the DMR check gate has been involved in different illegal activities such as collection of money from the truck drivers etc," he said.

He further said, "Being social workers, we had warned him not to indulge in such illegal activities failing which legal action will be taken against him. However, Pala did not stop. Hence, we filed an FIR against him."

He also alleged that the inspector had approached them and offered Rs 2 lakh with a requested to withdraw the FIR. "We were not ready to compromise with him. So in order to save himself, he filed the FIR against us," he said.
