HANM women wing condemns government

SHILLONG, Sept 30: The Hynniewtrep A’chik tiol Movement’s (HANM) women wing has condemned the State government for not declaring a State holiday to mourn the demise of veteran politician and leader of the Hill State Movement in the 70s Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
It also urged the State government to declare a State holiday on September 27 in memory of the HS Lyngdoh.
“If Mahatma Gandhi is being considered as the ‘Father of the tion’ then Maieit Hoping Stone Lyngdoh should be considered as the ‘Father of the State’ since he was also instrumental in our fight to attain Statehood,” BT Jyrwa president HANM Women Wing told the media here on Wednesday.
 “We condemn the congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for not even considering declaring a State Holiday at a time when the people of Meghalaya are mourning the demise of such a great leader and one of the most honest and clean politician,” she said.
She claimed that many people during the funeral of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on September 29 are surprised that the government did not declare it as a State Holiday.
