Hawk-Eye technology will help referees in Euro 2016: UEFA

Paris, April 20: The refereeing committee of European football’s governing body UEFA said on Wednesday that the Hawk-Eye technology which will be introduced in Euro 2016 will improve the performance of referees and support linesmen in the European Championship. Italian Pierluigi Colli, head of UEFA’s refereeing committee, explained that the linesman had to pay a great deal of attention to the goal line but now they will no longer have to do so as this technology will greatly help them, reports Efe. Spaniard Carlos Velasco Carballo, who will referee in the European Championship, supported the use of the Hawk-Eye technology. Hawk-Eye technology uses a camera-based system with seven cameras at every goal installed as high as possible within the stadium structure to decide whether a ball has completely crossed the goal line.
