HCCC felicitates AIUDF chief Ajmal in Hojai

HOJAI, October 18: The Hojai Citizens’ Coordition Committee (HCCC) accorded a massive civic reception in honour of AIUDF chief Maula Badruddin Ajmal on his being nomited as one of the ‘500 most influential Muslims of the World’. The reception was held at Abdul Hasib Higher Secondary School Auditorium in Hojai on Sunday morning.

It may be recalled that a leading intertiol research organisation, Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC) based at Amman Jordan, had two weeks ago nomited the President of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Lok Sabha Member from Dhubri, Maula Badruddin Ajmal, as one of the “World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims.” The seventh annual issue of the ‘Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims’, which was released on October 4, 2015, mentioned Ajmal in the field of philanthropy, charity, and development.

Ajmal and Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, who is also currently the third wealthiest Indian and the richest Indian Muslim according to Forbes, are the only two Indians on the list under this category. However, Indian cine star Shaba Azmi also features in the list under the art and culture category.

The RISSC noted that, “Maula Badruddin Ajmal is a prominent businessman of India who runs the Ajmal Group of companies that sells attar perfume, oils, and textiles. He is a member of various social service organisations and a scholar of Islam, having studied at the Darul Ulum Deoband. He is also a politician who founded the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). He is noted for his contributions to charitable hospitals, orphages, and educatiol institutions, including a women’s college of science and technology.”

Kamal Dutta, Secretary HCCC, in his welcome address said, “We are proud that one of our sons has taken the me of Hojai to the world forum. He has drawn the attention of the world by his good deeds for downtrodden, weak and poor masses of the society. His example should be an eye opener for all leaders of the country.”

Among the highlights of the day’s agenda was a power point programme made by Khasrul Islam, Mager, Ajmal Foundation who informed the gathering that over 8,000 youth from minorities and backward communities were given placement by Ajmal Foundation through a programme sponsored by the Union Ministry of Rural Development during the last five years.

Dr SN Dev Goswami, President HCCC, in his address appealed to Ajmal that the inhabitants of Hojai have great expectations from him. In return, Ajmal assured that he will leave no stone unturned for establishment of a medical college and university in the town. He even asked the citizens of Hojai to sit together, prepare a plan for developing Hojai as one of the best towns of the country, and then come to him for his help and support in the matter.

70 widows from BPL families were given assistance of Rs 10,000 each by Ajmal Foundation to commemorate the momentous occasion.
