The accused was on the run from March, 2015 and had maged to give slip to the police by frequently changing hiding places. Notably Rajib, who is a Head Assistant in the District Transport Office in Dhemaji, was med in IPC 420 non-bailable case and was believed to have amassed wealth through large-scale corruption beyond his official capacity in the me of issuing false tax certificates during registration of a new vehicle.

The arrest also led to the recovery of 20 different mobile handsets, one laptop, one .32 licensed revolver with 10 rounds of live ammunition, cash, a Ford Eco Sport SUV vehicle bearing registration number AS 22 D 0022 and several incrimiting documents used for forgery. The owner of the house informed about Rajib taking up the rented premises from October, 2015 and was living with his family on a monthly rent of Rs 9,000. One officer of the special investigative unit formed by SP Dhemaji to lead the operation, on condition of anonymity said, “His salary was Rs 30,000 of which he paid Rs 9,000 as rent, Rs 11,000 as EMI for the SUV to SBI which totals to Rs 20,000. In a nutshell the accused was a self-styled DTO of Dhemaji. Notably there were two cases, one filed by a general public in which he was charge sheeted while in the case filed by the erstwhile DTO, investigation was pending in Dhemaji PS case no 235/15 US 420, 409 IPC. After I took over, we decided to follow up the case and bring the accused to book and this led to his arrest. Regarding the revolver, I will take up the matter with authorities for immediate cancellation of the license and will also refer the case to the vigilance department.”

Meanwhile, sources from various DTO offices after hearing about his arrest  informed that Rajib Bordoloi was a notorious figure who amassed wealth wherever he was posted during his tenure till now. The accused has properties in Guwahati, Tinsukia and Sibsagar and was probably on the lookout to purchase a flat in Jorhat. Working with him as counterpart was difficult as the person tended to have a crimil mind and always in possession of fake rubber stamps, letter pads and also used to forge sigtures.

Rajib Bordoloi, while talking to The Sentinel, said, “Police have raided my rented residence because of a 420 case lodged by the Dhemaji DTO office while leveling charge of misappropriation. But there isn’t anything like that. I was suspended by the earlier DTO while I was on leave.”

At around 2 AM the police team set off for Dhemaji from Jorhat.
