 By a Staff Reporter

Guwahati, March 23:  Around 200 women of the city were screened for cancer & heart diseases at the free health awareness and screening camp held at Don Bosco School in Guwahati today.

World Women’s Boxing Champion Mary Kom with Artemis Hospital conducted the camp and appealed people to get their health check up at least once in every month. Kom stated, “I have collaborated with Artemis Hospital as they are an efficient multi specialty healthcare provider with ethical values and a strong women centric magement team. Women are the backbone of the society; they act multiple roles every day, right from taking care of their families to supporting them emotiolly and fincially. In our region, we have a large number of people suffering from cancer and heart related diseases. But, the awareness is very low in the society.” She further said, “We need to do much more in terms of educating people on the prevalent diseases. First of all, we need to make people aware that we can prepare and at least try to prevent ourselves from the diseases with the right kind of proactive precautiory approach. I am extremely happy that Artemis Hospitals is taking the first step in the right direction for the cause. I look forward to work with them to strengthen our fight against women related cancer and cardiac diseases in Assam and other North-east states.”

Kom requested everyone to come forward and join hands in the fight against these deadly diseases in the state.

More than hundred women were provided complimentary cardiac & cancer screening tests and specialist consultation in the camp. The other guests attended the programme were Dr. Devli Chakravarty and Dr. (Col.) Manjinder Sandhu from Artemis Hospital.  It may be mentioned that this camp is a part of scheduled camp organized for the awareness programme. The first camp was held at Gurgaon in Haria. The next camp would be held at Dibrugarh, Shillong and end up in Imphal respectively on coming March 21, 26 and 29, 2015.
