Health centre iugurated

SILCHAR, March 22: An iugural ceremony of the health centre was organized in the premises of Gurucharan College on Monday. The occasion was graced by the eminent persolities of Barak Valley which was presided over by Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, reputed surgeon of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Dr D P Paul, former joint director, Assam Health Services, was among the distinguished persolities.

Dr Madhumita Dey, convener, Gurucharan College health centre community, in her iugural speech said, “The idea of a health centre in the college premises was first mooted by Dr. Subhash th. We have separate hostels for both the boys and the girls. But, no treatment facility and care was available to them in case of any emergency. The students develop phobias during examitions and need immediate medical care.”

Dr Bhattacharjee, who is also a former student of the College said, “It is like home-coming for me. I am really honoured and would like to provide the health centre with my services.”

“The college is exploring new horizons. We must take care of our students,” added Dr D P Paul, who is also the attending physician of the centre.

Dr. Bibash Deb, principal of the college, briefing the audience about the future projects said, “We are also planning for a gymsium now.”

 The platinum jubilee souvenir of the college was also released on the occasion.  Other distinguished persolities present on the occasion included Dr. Saurindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, president, governing body, Ashesh Bhattacharjee, vice-president, governing body, and Dr. Dipankar Kar, Head, department of English.
