Health department conducts mass mobilization drive

SHILLONG, Sept 12: As part of the statewide enrolment for the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme phase –II, the District Medical Health Officer, East Khasi Hills conducted a day long mass mobilization drive for the people of Mylliem Constituency at San Mer Secondary School, Upper Shillong on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Health Minister, AL Hek informed that the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme phase –II provide insurance cover for hospitalization and treatment in all government and private hospitals in the State including empanelled private hospitals outside the State which are located in Guwahati, Cheni, New Delhi, Gurgoan, Vellore, Hyderabad, Kolkata for a wide range of diseases which include cost related for MRI, CT scan and other investigation.

Hek also informed that during the first phase of MHIS launched in the year 2012, the scheme has provided insurance benefits to more 40 thousand families of the State with a total claim of more than Rs 16 crores.

RV Lyngdoh, local MLA in his speech informed that till date out of twelve thousand eligible families for the Scheme in Mylliem Constituency only one thousand families have enrolled for the second phase of MHIS. He urged the people of Mylliem areas to come forward and enroll themselves to eble them to avail the benefits as provided in the scheme.

Later in the day, the Minister along with other dignitaries distributed Smart Cards to the selected beneficiaries who have enrolled for the scheme.
