Health Insurance Scheme: Minister Hek seeks report

SHILLONG, Jan 13: Following complaints made by various hospitals in the City relating to anomalies in the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek today said that he would take a very stern action against the insurance company.

Speaking to newsmen here, Hek said, “I will call for an emergency meeting in this regard and I will take a very stern action against the insurance company.”

According to the Health Minister, the agency who has taken the insurance for the MHIS scheme is not paying to the hospitals and many bills has accumulated in all the hospitals.

“We have received many complaints from different hospitals including zareth Hospital, Roberts Hospital and Bethany Hospital as the new India Insurance has failed to do the reimbursement,” Hek said.

Informing that this is not directly reimbursement of the Government, Hek further said that he is first going to examine the complete report from the Health Department and subsequently necessary steps would be taken.

Relating to the lacu in the enrolment of the MHIS, Hek said that this time those who have already register in the MHIS phase 1 will remain registered in the MHIS phase 2 and only renewal is needed and extension will be done for the remaining one or new registration so that targets can be achieved. Meanwhile relating to the non-functiol of X-Ray machines in Jaintia Hills hospital, Hek said “We cannot take any direct actions right now. I have asked to hospital to file a report in this regard.”
