Hearing on Maibang incident held, people seek justice

Haflong, Feb 6: VB Pyarelal, Additiol Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Fince, T&D, PHE and Cultural Affairs department, assured the people of Dima Hasao to conclude the enquiry very soon after holding a hearing into the circumstances leading to the violence that erupted at Maibang Railway station on January 25, at Dishru Cultural Club, Maibang on Tuesday. A large number of people from various parts of Dima Hasao were present in the hearing. Among them, founder president, Jadikhe isho Hosom, Bahim Ch Langthasa, prominent citizens of Haflong, Kumud Kemprai and Maibang J L Jidung along with DMA, ADSU, DSU and DWS explained the incident of January 25 while holding the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police responsible for the violence that erupted at Maibang Railway Station since the 12-hour bandh was about to end without any untoward incident but after the arrival of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, the situation turned violent.

Former MLA and former CEM of N C Hills Autonomous Council, Samarjit Haflongbar, while talking to the media, said, “To maintain peace in the district, at least minimum action has to be taken against the Deputy Commissioner,  Devojyoti Hazarika at the earliest because the judicial enquiry or any other enquiry will take its own time to deliver justice.”

President of Jadikhe isho Hosom, Kailen Daolagupu hoped that this one-man enquiry led by VB Pyarelal would certainly deliver justice to the people of Dima Hasao. “If the government fail to deliver justice to the people of Dima Hasao who have been fighting for their rights and safeguard of their motherland, then they will be compelled to go for stronger agitation,” he said. VB Pyarelal, while talking to the media, said, “I have noted all the deliberations of the people present here and the process of enquiry will be completed soon.”
