Heat wave affects farmers, students

A CORRESPONDENT

KALAIGAON, June 9: Soaring mercury in Kalaigaon since the past seven days has adversely affected farmers who are unable to work in their paddy fields due to the extreme heat. Despite being the peak time for farming, farmers are finding it difficult to plough their fields under the blazing sun. The heat has also destroyed vegetables like long beans, cucumber, chilly and brinjal. Farmers are now worried that this might affect their agricultural production this year. Moreover, students of primary along with upper primary schools of this area are finding it difficult to go school in this blazing heat. A large number of students have not attended their classes due to the heat. So, guardians have urged the authority concerned to change the school timings. They have requested that school time should be scheduled in the morning from 7.30 am during these hot days.
