Heavy rain, storm lash Bokajan

Bokajan, May 2: Nature seems to have struck its whip on the people of Bokajan as a fierce storm swept over the area and its suburbs creating panic among the residents. The storm that struck the region on Wednesday afternoon, took its heavy toll on countless houses, besides uprooting trees and electric poles in the region. The storm that was followed by a heavy downpour, disrupted power supply as branches snapped the overhead electric wires, resulting in a complete power failure in the area. Many shops were overturned and several roofs were blow off in the trail of destruction caused by the storm.

Vehicular traffic over the NH-39 was also affected as over a dozen uprooted trees and electric poles fell over the highway, disrupting the movement of vehicles for several hours. The storm has caused damage in Bokajan town, besides Khatkhati, Hatigarh, CCI Town Ship, Sukhanjan and other areas. The entire area plunged into darkness as power supply was knocked out. Sources in the APDCL said that it would at least take 24 hours to restore power in the affected areas.
