Heavy storm causes extensive damage in Dhing, Batadrava

Batadrava, April 9: On Saturday night, storm and heavy rain wreaked havoc in Dhing and Batadrava of gaon district, besides other parts of the State.

Heavy storm accompanied by rain has caused extensive damages to maize crops and variety of vegetables cultivated by the local farmers in Aauniati Xatra, Sologuri, Kachokati, Rajabari, Bengeti and Dumdumia Balixatra, including various riverine areas adjacent to Dhing. As per locals, over 200 bighas of maize crop was damaged due to the storm and heavy rain.

On the other hand, Saturday night thunderstorm destroyed several business establishments of Santijan Bazar of Batadrava gaon.The strong wind accompanied by heavy shower blew away the roof and tin sheets of the shops at Santijan Bazar. Some of the houses in Batadrava, Jajori, Bebejia and Dimou were also reportedly damaged in the storm and many trees were uprooted. The power supply lines have been spped and it may take some time to restore electricity. However, there was no report of any casualty, an official report informed on Sunday.
