Shillong, May 5: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek has called for better road connectivity to the proposed Shillong Medical College premises at the Reid Chest Hospital.
On Saturday, Hek, who inspected the site for the proposed Medical College at Jhalupara, said better road connectivity is the need of the hour as presently there is a single approach road to the proposed Shillong Medical College.
Hek conducted the inspection in the presence of local MLA Mahendro Rapsang along with other officials. "We've realized the need to set up a Shillong Medical College.  But the need to have better road connectivity is equally important  as there is only one approach road to the proposed Shillong Medical College," Hek told reporters. The State Health Minister said that the MoU was signed for the project but no agreement was signed for handing over the land. As for the New TB Hospital at Umsawli, he said, "If the infrastructure facilities are not adequate, we'll not shift a single patient from here to the new TB Hospital." Informing that works are still pending in the new TB hospital, he said that the Umsawli project would be completed within 2018.
