Hek inaugurates medical fraternity meet

SHILLONG, April 27: The Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek today inaugurated the 20th Scientific Conference cum General Body Meeting of the Medical fraternity of Meghalaya under the banner of the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) on the theme ‘Transforming Healthcare – In Continuity with Consistency’ at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, Hek said that the theme of the conference is apt and very encouraging and expressed hope that the outcome of the meeting will be of great help not only to the doctors but also the Department of Health to understand, innovate and improve the provision of health care to the people of the State.

He further added that medical science is a wide field and one has to go on updating and replenishing one’s knowledge to keep abreast so as to provide the latest technical diagnostic  know how and treatment to the patients.

The Health Minister stated that with the selfless sacrifice of the doctors and other health staff, the implementation of centrally funded schemes like National Health Mission and various Health programmes, quality medical services to the people has improved. He urged the medical fraternity of the State to sincerely and honestly strive harder to provide the best health care services possible to the patients especially the poor and needy.

To improve the health indices statistics, such as MMR and IMR decisions have to be taken in a professional manner and approach, and to achieve such noble objectives we need a dedicated, devoted and contended members of the medical community to serve the people. It is only by a common and joint endeavour between the administration of all levels and the people that these objectives can be achieved, he added.

Speaking on the occasion as the Guest of Honour, Tourism Minister  Metbah Lyngdoh said the Government is committed to reach out to the people especially in the rural areas who are in needs of health care facilities by setting up CHCs and PHCs across the State. He also called upon the medical fraternity of the State to come together and set a goal to transform the health care system in the State.

            Earlier, the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries released the Souvenir of the Meghalaya Medical Services Association.

            The programme was also attended by  PW Ingty, Additional Chief Secretary in-charge of Health and Family Welfare, Dr TWahlang, DHS, MI, Dr Aman Warr, president, MMSA, Dr Bareh Pohchen, general secretary, MMSA and medical fraternity from across the State.
