Heritage MG train in Dima Hasao to be revived, assures Rajen Gohain

From a Correspondent

Haflong, September 20: Filly the aspiration and long-standing demand of the people of Dima Hasao will be fulfilled as the Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain assured that the heritage train with steam engine would be revived when a team from Haflong met him on Tuesday, informed Samuel Changsan, Executive Member, NC Hills Autonomous Council.

He also said that the Minister called up his officers in their presence and instructed them to immediately take initiative to stop the theft or destruction of old MG tracks while the project was being revived.

The Railways discarded the portion from Mahur to Harangajao when the Lumding- Silchar  MG was converted to BG. People of more than 240 villages along the MG track lost the prime means of communication and also suffered a great economic setback. Perhaps for the relief of these people, a project in the me Mahur – Harangajao was initiated and even some work was also done in this regard but all of a sudden the project was dropped by the Railway authority without assigning any reasons. The NCHAC and almost all the NGOs of Dima Hasao approached the authority concerned time and again and the efforts had been continuing for last several years.

As soon as this information reached Haflong, people offered their heartfelt gratitude towards the MoS, Rajen Gohain. People are of the opinion that this Heritage MG train would bring a sea change in the life of the people of Dima Hasao and boost the tourism sector.
