Highway Nest' iugurated at Deingpasoh Toll Plaza

SHILLONG, Jan 31: A ‘Highway Nest’ (Mini) at Deingpasoh Toll Plaza at Mawkhunu Village on Shillong Bypass Project Highway was iugurated by Lt Col Rajeev Malhotra, Project Director, tiol Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PIU Shillong on Wednesday.The project was initiated at the directions of Chairman NHAI, NHAI PIU Shillong.

The Deingpasoh Toll Plaza in Meghalaya is the first ‘Toll Plaza’ in the entire north- eastern region. It has the facility of Highway Nest (Mini) which will provide relief to the Highway users as the kiosks will provide drinking water, tea or coffee, and packaged food along with parking space for vehicles. Toilet facilities for ladies and gents are also available at the site.

On the occasion, a tree plantation drive and distribution of books as well as stationery to children below the poverty line were also undertaken by the Project Director during the event.

Presently, the operation and maintence of the ‘Highway Nest’ (Mini) will be undertaken by NHAI Concessioire M/s Shillong Expressway Pvt Ltd as a short-term measure. Subsequently, the Meghalaya State Tourism Department will take over the operation and maintence of ‘Highway Nest’ (Mini) after the selection and tendering process is completed. This little step of NHAI will go long way in providing rest and recoup to the general public commuting in the north-eastern States.
