Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania

Kokrajhar: Assam Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma while attending the electioneering campaign for BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma at Kalipukri in Kokrajhar on Friday slammed Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania, who is an independent candidate with the support of OBoro Suraksha Samity for his divisive and communal politics. Sarma said Naba Kr Sarania raises ST status issue only when election comes but remains silent when in power. He said Sarania cannot give ST status to six communities of Assam as he is not the authority and he remained silent for the last five years as he failed to raise the issue on the floor of Parliament.

Sarma said the BJP government with AGP and BPF have already formed a committee to look after the matter and its modalities have already been introduced in the Parliament where State government and BTC have also sent cabinet nod to the centre to include them in ST list without affecting the existing ST communities of Assam. He said Naba Kumar Sarania could not ensure security to the people of the region who himself has fear of being arrested for his several pending criminal cases in different police stations. He also said Sarania wanted to be MP just for his safety and security but not for the interest of people.

The NEDA leader said there had been frequent ethnic clashes in BTC region while Congress was in power but after the BJP-led government came to power there were no communal violence in BTC area and people of all communities are living together peacefully. He praised BPF president Hagrama Mohilary for peace, unity and equal rights and development slogan. He also said the Modi-led Union government and the State government will pour in more fuel to Mohilary to fasten the acceleration of development in BTC.

Sarma said he had never seen the subject of Boro and OBoro and asked the people to dismiss the two controversial words. He claimed that when someone ask the students of LP school with photos of Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi to whom they want as Prime Minister, definitely they will point fingers at Modi. He also said the BJP led NDA government has introduced many pro poor schemes like rice at Rs 1 per kg, kerosene at Rs. 20 per litre, old age pension to above 60 years of age, pension to all widows, incentives to farmers, battery operated scooty to girl students of BPL families, concrete house to all families by 2025, electricity to all, major treatment facilities to poor families, enhancement of financial assistance to women SHG, free text books to the students from high school to degree level etc. He called upon the people to cast their votes for BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma in Kokrajhar Parliamentary seat.

Earlier, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary addressed before the people. He left to Barpeta before arrival of Sarma. The meeting was also addressed by ministers Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Keshab Mahanta and Chandan Brahma.
