HOWRAGHAT,  January 12:  BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma lambasted the ruling Congress party in Assam and the local Congress leaders of Karbi Anglong at a party workers’ meeting held at Diphu town on Monday.

While addressing the BJP workers’ meet organized by Lumbajong and Langsomapi block unit, Sarma alleged that the Congress had betrayed the poor tribal people of the hilly backward region. Sarma said, “Congress has duped the people of the hills for the last 60 years in the me of giving full autonomy. This party has always stage-maged some gimmick before election by submitting memorandum in Delhi in the me of agitation for autonomous state.”

On conducting special TET for Karbi Anglong, Sarma said that due to his persol effort special TET examition for Karbi Anglong was held and work on medical college could be started and all along the local MP Biren Sing Engti ‘preferred to snooze in the Parliament’. “BJP promises full-fledged autonomy for Karbi Anglong, including direct funding and separate university and state-of the art infrastructure within five years, which Congress has failed to deliver in 60 years,” he added.

Sarma said that due to massive infiltration of the Bangladeshi tiols in the State, no indigenous community or tribe was in a position to elect a single candidate of their community in at least 35 assembly seats of Assam.

While seeking support from the people of Karbi Anglong, Sarma urged all to unite under the banner of BJP to shape a developed and secure Assam. He further said, “This is our last battle of Saraighat to defend ourselves from extinction; BJP opposes none except Bangladeshis and its protector AIUDF, we do not want to see Badruddin Ajmal becoming Chief Minister of Assam, and right now Congress Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is working hand-in gloves with Baduraddin Ajmal to devastate the indigenous communities of Assam. Till today Congress has kept us all dependent through its policy of yarn- blanket and dystic rule instead of empowering the youths through self-reliance.”
