Himanta warns PWD engineers, contractors

GUWAHATI, June 1: Fresh after taking charge as PWD Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has narrowed down options for the engineers and contractors of the department into only two – perform with quality or get slapped with FIRs. This seems to be his warning shot to bring the department back on track.

The minister had a meeting with PWD engineers and contractors on works of the department. “What you did earlier is gone. I know what you did over the years, so do you. Now on I want you to be through and through good, with nothing shoddy. If I find any compromise on quality, be ready to get slapped with FIRs. Enough is enough. Gone are the days when you bit more than you could chew and left most of the projects half-done. If you take four or five projects together, you’ll have to complete all of them on time. Complete projects properly on time, and making timely payment is my responsibility. There can’t be good money for shoddy works,” he said.

Targeting the department’s engineers, Sarma said: “Do away with the practice of letting files gather dust in tables. I want only sincere works and results, nothing else. If you can’t, just surrender. Including PMGSY, the PWD has a whole lot to do. We need to lay more stress on them.”
