Hindi-Chini bhai bhai: Dalai Lama

Kolkata, Nov 23: Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama on Thursday batted for respect and recognition of the ‘Hindi-Chini bhai bhai’ spirit to take Sino-Indian relations forward.

“India and Chi should eventually find respect for ‘Hindi-Chini bhai bhai’,” the Dalai Lama told the media here when asked on Chi’s objections to President Ram th Kovind’s visit to Aruchal Pradesh.
He said that “Chi needs India, India needs Chi” and “they have to live side by side”.
“There is no other way except to live peacefully and help each other,” he said at a talk organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
On the Tibet-Chi issue, the Dalai Lama stressed on Tibet’s development.
“Past is past, we have to look at future. Since 1974 we are not seeking independence. Tibetans also want modernised Tibet. We need more material development. For that remaining with Chi is in our interest, provided they should respect Tibetan unique culture and heritage,” he added.
He said that former US President George W. Bush’s motivation to bring democracy in Iraq was “good” but his method “wrong.”
“He is a wonderful person. We immediately developed a close level human interaction when we first met. I told him ‘I respect you but I have great reservation for some of your policies’,” he said at a talk organised by the ICC.
The Dalai Lama also spoke about his relation with Bush Junior to drive home his emphasis on conflict resolution through dialogue.
“There is a lot of problem (in Iraq). Now there is a bad relation with many in the Muslim community. If he was not using force and used more money for education and scholarship for students, then situation would have been different,” he said.
The Dalai Lama said he is “committed till his last breath to promote ancient Indian knowledge in modern India through education”. (IANS)
