Hindu body for humanitarian consideration of 'D' voters

SILCHAR, Aug 10: In identical memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Cachar today by a delegation of Hindu garik Suraksha Samiti, central committee based here, it was pointed out that the issue of ‘D’ voters in Barak Valley in particular has taken a critical turn. Every day, various persons across the district are being arrested by the police and sent to detention camps. Many of the bofide Indian citizens have been branded as ‘D’ voters due to non-service of summons properly. This results in ex parte judgement by the Foreigners’ Tribuls. Further, often on wrong identification of mes in the legacy data or voters list, Indian citizens are being subjected to extreme harassment. It has also been reported that the poor and illiterate villagers as well as slum dwellers uware of the consequences of the cases of the Foreigners’ Tribul get misguided and have to suffer for no fault of their own. The Adhivakta Parishad, Hindu garik Suraksha Samiti and some other organizations have alleged that many D voters are genuine Indian citizens who are being harassed. These organizations have also written to prime minister to amend the existing laws in order to protect the Indian citizens, refugees, the victims of civil disturbances and religious persecution in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
