LAKHIMPUR: Alleging Chinese hand behind the abnormal rise in water level of Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh, the activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad (HYCP) burnt the Chinese flag at Malpani Chariali in North Lakhimpur town on Saturday. President Jugmajyoti Dutta and secretary Madhav Das stated that China had caused a serious threat to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, especially to the existence of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Majuli districts. They added that the abnormal phenomenon had revealed the secret conspiracy hatched by China against Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by establishing big river dams on Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet. In this regard, both leaders sharply criticized the Union and State governments for taking no initiative to pressurize China.

The organization demanded the government to raise the issue in the international platform so that the States of the north-eastern region would not be victims of the catastrophe caused by China’s big river dams. Further, the organization warned ULFA not to support China without being vocal against the foreign country regarding the issue.
