Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad observes Lachit Divas

LAKHIMPUR, Nov 24: Paying deep tribute to Lachit Borphukan, Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad centrally observed the ‘Lachit Divas’ on Friday in Lakhimpur at Tyag Kshetra. The program began at 7am with the unfurling of the flag by Jugma Jyoti Dutta, the President of the district unit of the organisation. It was followed by the lighting of earthen lamp and paying of floral tribute to the statue of the hero which was carried out by Keshav Bhuyan, the adviser of the Celebration Committee.

 Social activist Uday Sankar Hazarika administered the ‘Swahid Tarpan’ event. Then a drawing competition was held among the students in two categories. The Celebration Committee took out a cultural procession at 9.30am covering a round of North Lakhimpur town. The Open Session commenced from 12.30pm. President of the Central Committee of the organisation Bolen Baishya and Secretary Dipankar Gohain took part in the Open Session as speakers while Rukma Gohain Baruah, the Principal of Lakhimpur PG College participated as the Appointed Speaker. Retired Principal of Itagar Government College, Nripen Phukan attended the programme as the Guest of Honour. A host of artistes and cultural groups staged dance items displaying the valour and heroism of Lachit Borphukan. The activists of the organisation lit a good amount of earthen lamps Tyag Kshetra campus in the evening. At night, the Celebration Committee convened a cultural functions in which cine artist Deepli Deka took part.
