Historic Rupahi Pathar to host 85th Sankardev Sangha session

SIVASAGAR, Sept 5: Brisk preparations are going on in full swing to hold the 85th session of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at Sahityarathi Lakshmith Bezbaruah Sammay Kshetra in Sivasagar with a four-day-long programme from February 4 to February 7, 2016.

The venue of the session is located at the historic Rupahi Pathar which is being prepared to accommodate 30 lakh Vaisvite bhakats coming from different parts of the State. The session is being hosted by Sivasagar district committee of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha.

A reception committee has already been formed in this connection with former Padadhikar Rajanikanta Dutta as president, Amguri MLA Anjan Dutta as working president and Anda Kumar Bora as general secretary along with 44 different sub-committees. The reception committee with support from the people of Sivasgar has been working on a war-footing way to complete the infrastructure of the large religious event. Biswa Saikia, producer of Sankardev Theatre, will construct a delegates’ house as dotion, where 3,000 delegates can participate at a time.

The reception committee has also planned to erect a ‘Sankari Sanskritik Prakalpa’ to make the memory of the session everlasting. An area of four bighas of land has been prepared for the project and a budget of Rs 7 crore has been estimated for the purpose. While 2 bighas of land has been purchased by the reception committee, the remaining 2 bighas of land has been doted by the family of Deben Hazarika in his memory.
