Historical Baresahariya Bhao gets under way

Biswath Chariali, Feb 28: The historical Baresahariya Bhao is all set to start on  March 1 at Pokamura Pathar at Jamugurihat with much pomp and gaiety. The organizing committee of the historical Baresahariya Bhao has been working round-the-clock these days to make the event a grand success. The day one’s programmes include Singhasa Shobha Yatra, iuguration of the Barechaharia Bhow Khetra, iuguration of the exhibition and Gandhotsava. The committee has also decided to institute a good number of awards this time to encourage the participant actors. According to this, awards will be given in the categories of Best troupe, Best Gayan-Bayan, Best male actor, Best female character, Best Shruradhar, Best child actor, Best Make-up man and Best mask acting. Altogether 42 bhaos will be presented in 21 khalas during the festival.

Union Home Minister Rajth Singh, State Chief Minister Sarvanda Sonowal and State Fince and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma are likely to grace the occasion.

Meanwhile, Additiol Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, MGVK Bhanu visited the festival site recently and took stock of the preparations of the biggest such festival in the State. He held discussions with Padma Hazarika, Sootea MLA and the president of the organizing committee, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and others on issues like necessary arrangements for the visitors and security of the VVIPs and VIPs.

MGVK Bhanu also lauded the hard work meted out by the rural people from more than 50 surrounding villages of Jamugurihat who tried their level best to make the main pandal in the shape of a lotus without having any technical training and support within a very short span of time.
