Historical play 'Maniram Dewan' staged

SIVASAGAR, Dec 31: Bhangima Kala Kendra, in collaboration with Nrityangan, staged dance-drama Maniram Dewan in Hindi at Sibasagar tya Mandir on Wednesday evening.

Based on the life of Maniram Dewan who rose against the British in the 19th century, the dance-drama Maniram Dewan, directed by renowned Kathak dancer and theatre director Hemanta Kumar Kalita, allowed the full-packed audience to get suitably involved with every turn of event.

Earlier, iugurating the dance-drama, tyacharya Padmashree Jatin Goswami said, “We have never thought of any dance-drama on the stories based on Assamese freedom fighters like Piyoli Phukan or Maniram Dewan. It is a colossal task to stage such plays with historical figures before the audience.” The Sangeet tak Akademi award winner also praised the director and the organizer for their united efforts to stage the dance-drama.

Just before beginning of the play, retired librarian of Sibsagar College, Deba Hazarika, Principal of Swahid Piyoli Phukan College, Nilakhi Borgohain, and Pankaj Chetri were felicitated by the organizer.
