HIV infection rate rises in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT, May 12: Increasing rate of HIV infection in Golaghat shocked the people while Golaghat Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital’s ICTC counselor revealed the increase of HIV infected persons on Thursday.ICTC counselor, Dibyajyoti Das said that they collected blood sample from 25375 persons of which above 400 persons were HIV positive. 85 persons were suffering from AIDS and among them 30 persons were already dead. Besides this 20 babies were also infected and of which 6 babies had died.Further the ICTC counselor said that HIV infected persons are found in every village of Golaghat district. From general persons to college students are infected. The main cause of the increase in infection is believed to be from truck and tanker drivers who have unprotected sex when they go out of state.
