HNLC claims responsibility for low intensity blast

Threatens to carry on with similar activities

SHILLONG, November 13: The proscribed Hynniewtrep tiol Liberation Council (HNLC) was quick to claim responsibility of the low intensity blast at Them Mawbah, Shillong late on Thursday night. The claim came along with a threat to trigger more blast if the government fails to acknowledge its peace overtures.

The HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw in an email statement to a section of the media on Friday stated, “This is for the information of the general public, media, police department and the GOM that the HNLC claims responsibility for the RDX blast that took place yesterday at Them Mawbah.”

“The blast had almost shaken the entire place and its impact has freshened up the minds of the people that HNLC is back with a small surprise,” stated Nongtraw while adding that this is a first warning shot to prove that the outfit is still alive. The proscribed outfit which has been at the receiving end due to constant police pressure in the past one decade stated that it has purposely planted the RDX in such a location at late night hours in order to avoid human casualties. Meanwhile, City SP Vivek Syiem said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.
