HNLC plays down Mukul's time frame

FROM OUR STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Dec 21: The Hynniewtrep tiol Liberation Council (HNLC) today said that it is in “no mood” for any peace talks.

“Now the CM has given a timeframe for militants to eschew violence within six months and show their commitment in deeds. Where was Dr Mukul when time and again we had opted for peace? Why did he turn a deaf ear to our statements?” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw today said.

The HNLC is irked at the State government signing peace talks with only Garo militant groups. “Why did he favour only the UALA? Now what is his main objective to call for peace? Does he plan to use the peace settled militants for the upcoming elections?” Nongtraw said.

The HNLC said that the Khasi militant group is in no mood for any peace talks in the midst of all these political manipulations.

It may be mentioned that during the signing of the peace pact with the UALA last week, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma appealed to other outfits including GNLA and HNLC to stop all crimil activities and take the opportunity for peace settlement.

It may be mentioned that Dr Sangma also offered other militant groups in the state to come forward for peace talks for another six months starting from January 1.
