HNPM slams KHADC chief

FROM OUR REPORTER

SHILLONG, March 31: The Hynniewtrep tiol People Movement (HNPM) on Thursday accused the KHADC Chief PN Syiem of misleading the people of the state on the issue of Village Administration Bill (VAB) 2015.

“The CEM had stated that the stripping of powers from the traditiol heads by the High Court goes against the traditiol customs and belief of the people, however we feel that what the High Court has done is correct since most of the headmen had been misusing their powers by ostracizing people in their village just on the basis of superstitious belief,” Tony Marbaniang, president of HNPM told newsmen here on Thursday.

He alleged that when it came to border issue Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had invited various NGOs for discussion in March last year but the NGOs did not attend the meeting and the reason for this is due to the fact that the CM did not offer them money.

He further said that the NGOs will only raise the border issue only when election comes time since they are all vying to contest in the elections.

“We also condemn the statements made by Julius Dorphang in February in which he said that despite being the Chairman of HNLC there has not been any charges against him be it murder, kidpping etc.”
