HNYF delegation meets Warjri

SHILLONG, Nov 10: A demand to upgrade the Primary Health Center (PHC) Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi to Community health Center (CHC) was made by a delegation of Hynniewtrep tiol Youth Front (HNYF) to the Health Minister Roshan Warjri on Thursday.

“The PHC caters to the need of locals at Byrnihat as well villages bordering Assam and Meghalaya and has been operating since the last 27 years. It was iugurated by D.D. Lapang, then deputy Chief Minister on July 14, 1989,” Laineh Wahlang, president HNYF, Byrnihat Circle told reporters after submitting a memorandum to Warjri.

Lamenting that there is shortage of manpower in the PHC, he said 1 MBBS doctor and 1 Ayurvedic doctor is available and 5 nurses. He added, “It is difficult for them to meet the increasing demands of health care with a population of 43, 080. The PHC currently has 10 beds.”

On the part of the Minister, she assured the delegation that the needful will be done.

In the memorandum, the pressure group has mentioned that the PHC delivers services to locals residing at Shangbangla, Killing, Umtyrnga, Nongspung, Pillingkata and other villages bordering Assam.
