HNYF slams company for poor road construction quality

SHILLONG, June 22: The Hynniewtrep tiol Youth Federation (HNYF), West Jaintia zone has strongly condemned the poor construction work of Jowai-rtiang Khanduli road by Dkhar Company.

The organization has also demanded the removal of illegal check gates set-up by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.

Addressing mediapersons, president of HNYF-WJ, Wanbun Dkhar said that the quality of the construction work of 60-km stretch of road, which was constructed by the company at the cost of Rs 67.36 crore, is very poor.

Informing that the road constructed in 2011, is now in a pathetic condition, Dkhar said, “According to the RTI information, the road which was supposed to be 7.50 m wide is only 6.85 m and its thickness is only two inches instead of five inches,” he said adding that the PWD department has also failed to provide the inspection report.

He further said that the company has also failed to re-construct the drains and houses of the residents, which were damaged during the construction of the road.

He further stated that HNYF will approach the PWD minister in this regard and if he fails to take action they will write to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH).

Meanwhile, the HNYF demanded the removal of two illegal check gates set up by the JHADC.

“The gates stationed at Shangpung, rtiang, Lukha and Khlieh Tyrshi is allowing vehicles to pass through without challan after various payments made to self interest officers,” W Dhar  said adding that the  organization have appraised the Chief Forest Officer (CFO) JHADC , F Blah, many times on this matter.

He also informed that despite the High court order for removal of these gates only two gates have been removed and two gates are still operating at Khlieh tyrshi and Lukha.
