Hold talks with HNLC, KSU to government

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, June 10: The demand to hold peace talks with the proscribe HNLC has gained momentum on Friday after the Khasi Student’s Union (KSU)’s Jaintia Hills district unit, joining the chorus to urge the state government to take up the issue seriously. The union in a statement said that if the state government is sincere with its efforts to boost tourism in Meghalaya then there is a need on the part of the government to call the HNLC to the negotiating table. “Giving fincial assistance to the film ‘Rock on 2’ with an aim to promote tourism in the state is just a waste of money,” the Union said. According to them, the government should not be partial when it comes holding peace talks with any militant outfit in the state. “We want to urge the MLAs from Khasi and Jaintia Hills to put all their differences aside and to fight for the cause and betterment of the state,” the statement read.
