Homage paid to martyr Nondeswar Dutta

Gaurisagar, October 23: Along with the rest of the State, Gaurisagar Police Station observed Martyr’s Day recently at 82 No Charing Neog Gohain Pukhuri LP School.

 Nondeswar Dutta, a student of this school  and a jawan of Assam Police,  died in ambush with ULFA militants on March 12,1993 at Bandarmari Tiniali under Nitaipukhuri Police Outpost in Sivasagar district. With a view to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the jawan, a meeting was held at the school campus.

Podma Kanta Neog, social worker and former teacher, chaired the meeting. In the meeting, Dadu Borah, Officer-in-Charge explained the objective of the day and highlighted the sacrifice of Nondeswar Dutta. In the meeting Dadu Borah felicitated Pabita Dutta and Chandra Dutta, mother and elder brother of Nondeswar Dutta respectively.

Earlier the programme started with lighting of an earthen lamp by Pabita Dutta before the portrait of Nondeswar Dutta. Bikash Hazarika, classmate of Nondeswar Dutta, recollected the past memories. On this occasion, the school authority planted two saplings in the school compass to commemorate their courageous alumnus.

Nondeswar Dutta, son of Hara Kanta Dutta of Charing Dulia Gaon, joined Assam Police on July 7, 1987.
