Hospital x-ray machine defunct, patients suffer

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Feb 27: The patients of Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital of Golaghat are suffering due to non-functioning of the X-ray machine in the hospital since several days.

On Monday, Sukhi Ghatowar, an aged woman of Kathani Bagan in Golaghat was admitted in Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital and the doctor advised her to do an X-ray. But when she along with her family members arrived in the X-ray room, there was a notice that the X-Ray machine was out of service. The patient was taken to an X-ray centre outside the hospital premises in a stretcher.  Patients and attendants have alleged that except saline bottles, no other medicines are available in the hospital.

Notably, at a time when State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been trying to bring changes in the health sector, various departments of the Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital are functioning without doctors.

The Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital is the only hope for the common people of Sarupathar, Barpathar, Merapani, Chungajan, Morangi, Gomari, Kamargaon, Khumtai and Numaligarh under Golaghat district. But due to uvailability of sufficient doctors and medicines, patients are suffering due to lack of proper treatment.
