FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL April 19: At least 100 houses in three villages in the Imphal east district were destroyed last night as a result of strong thunder storm. This was followed by toreential rains throughout the night. The shacs and thatched and tin roofed houses belong to lower middle class persons. Since their houses had been razed to ground they had no shelter and remained drenched throughout the night. The district administration has not taken note of the large scale destruction and no assistancfe was provided on Sunday. However reporters said that there was no human casualty. The villagers told The Sentinel that it it surprising that the government remains sleeping over their losses. They said that the district administration should rush relief materials. Since the sky is still overcast and some rains were reported their misery shall continue. All the villages fall within the Uyum gram panchayat.
