Houses gutted

Biswath Chariali, Feb 12: In a major fire that broke out at No 2 Bortamuli village under Gohpur police station in Biswath district, eight houses belonging to six families were completely gutted on Saturday night.

Property worth around Rs 30 lakh were burnt to ashes in the fire. The households belonged to Ghashyam Pegu, Bangsarat Pegu, Pur Singh Pegu, Mahanta Doley, Suren Pegu and Churamani Pegu. Though the personnel from the fire station at Gohpur moved on time, yet they could not reach the spot early because of the poor road condition from the NH 15 to No 2 Bortamuli village, local people alleged. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
