HS Lyngdoh to be laid to rest today

SHILLONG, Sept 28: The mortal remains of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh was taken to Nongstoin, the headquarters of West Khasi Hills district, ebling the residents of his domain constituency to pay the last respects.

The body was taken from his Shillong residence at around 8 in the morning in a cavalcade that arrived at Nongstoin at around 11 past. A sea of humanity descended at Pompyrthat ground, the epicenter of his bastion for more than half a decade.

Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Silverstar Kharlyngdoh told The Sentinel that the ground was filled with thousands of people who came to pay the last respect to the departed soul.

 From Nongstoin, HS Lyngdoh’s body was then taken to his tive village in Mawkyllei, accompanied by top district officials, party functiories and supporters. The fil rituals have been scheduled to start at 11 am tomorrow.

Besides the religious rites, elaborated arrangement has been made by the government to give a befitting farewell to the ‘Lion’ before laying him down to rest. Official sources further informed that the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will be in Mawkyllei village to attend the burial ceremony.
