HSDC alleges conspiracy to shift Howraghat subdivision office

From our Correspondent

HOWRAGHAT, August 17: The people of Howraghat area of Karbi Anglong district had been demanding creation of subdivision since last three decades. While responding to the long-standing demand of the Howraghat people, greater Howraghat was declared as subdivision on January 1 this year by the Congress government led by the then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

As per the declaration of the government, the Civil Sub-divisiol office was formally iugurated by the then HAD Minister Kharsing Engti at the Howraghat PWD inspection Bungalow on February 28, 2016. Since then the civil sub-divisiol office has been functioning in a room only.

There are no staff or offices, except the only single office of the SDO civil. On the other hand, no constructive steps have been taken by the government to expand the administrative functions.

Meanwhile, Howraghat Subdivision Development Committee (HSDC) expressed serious concern over the alleged indifferent attitude shown by the government.

As per statement made by HSDC, the committee said that they had received confidential report from reliable sources that a section of people with vested interest were trying to shift all the sub-divisiol functiory offices from Howraghat to another place showing lack of sufficient land required for the infrastructure of the subdivision.

Meanwhile, the committee demanded to start the official activities by setting up permanent civil sub-divisiol office along with its related offices immediately at Howraghat. A large grazing land situated at Amoni gaon Hidibomglong, Beloguri and Dighalipar on the outskirts of Howraghat town had been agreed by the people to dote for infrastructure of Howraghat subdivision. But a section of people are allegedly indulging in conspiracy to shift the subdivision from Howraghat to a remote hill area. Meanwhile, the HSDC demanded that the conspiracy to shift the sub-divisiol office from Howraghat showing lack of land should be stopped.

Meanwhile, HSDC threatened to start vigorous agitation if the Howraghat subdivision office is shifted to some other place.
